Abstract: The West Tokyo Chapter of JALT (Japan Association of Language Teaching) announces the third in a new series of micro-conferences, each featuring several presenters exploring a particular topic for a whole day. June’ s theme is teaching reading. Presentations include: "The Search for Irony: Accessing the Reading Process in Action"; "Individualised Long-Term L2 Reading"; "Using Song Lyrics for Reading Content Words with Young Learners"; and "If I Knew Then What I Know Now: Advice on Setting Up an Extensive Reading Program".

Abstract: Like it or not, most of our students have to be evaluated and take an English test of one form or another in their learning lives. The presenter will examine proven ways to make exam classes more fun, practical and effective than run-of-the-mill rote memorization, and equip students with the techniques needed to pass the dreaded exam.
